Tom Kristensen has made some of the most beautiful poems Denmark have been blessed with. Since most of you guys on this forum are American, you will never have the pleasure of reading his poetry. So I will translate a couple of my favourites for you, so you can get a glimpse of what can be easily considered one of my most important idols.
Like a bully with bloody hands After fights and liquer burn I have raised from the chains of randomness On a bed near the edge of dispair
Asian in seize is the fear. It has riped against immature years. And I feel it in my heart everyday, As if mainlands perish everyday.
But my fear must be redeemed in longing And hallucinations of terrors and distress I have been longing for ship disasters And for vandalism and sudden death!
I have been longing for burning cities And human races in flight Against upheaval, which struck the whole world And an earthquake which was called "The chastisement of God".
Remember this is my personal translation, and doesn't do the poem justice. Still.. Hope you enjoyed.
