Sometimes our works are snagged and published on other people's Websites. I was surprised by this one when doing a Google search for "Ted L Glines." The Website appears to be foreign, and I have no idea why my poem was chosen for publication there. But, here it is:

At Los Angeles International Airport, on the concourse, there was this raggly man with a sign and a doomsday speech and a cauldron where passers-by dropped money. Every day, he did this. Afterward, he went to the parking garage and drove home in his Corvette. Well - LAX is the gateway to Hollywood ...
I believe in the doomsday sayer warning scorning propaganda player frightnight sermons play a scary riff to send us screaming right off a cliff doomsday gloomsday we live in fear and what will be doomsday this time next year like pied-piped lemmings before it's too damned late we purchase salvation from his collection plate and when he goes home from his doomsday feats we know that he lives on dem golden streets
Dear Poet, as you publish your works on reputable sites, realize that those works are carried onto major browsers, and your works may be snagged to enhance someone's Website at home or abroad. How should you feel about that? Your feelings are always your own choice. I look at this, and I say "Gee ... someone liked my work enough to use it on their own Website. I am okay with that!"
In many cases it's Scrapers or Spiders which are automated to search the web for content. Someone, somewhere programmed these spiders to search the web and create pages with content from other website.
The reasons why they would bother to do this are varied.
Of course real people also will use your content or name without permission. It is always a good idea to Google your name every once in awhile and see what comes up.
If you've posted a poem or article on your website, blog, webpage etc.. and you want to see if it's been posted anywhere else on the web.
Just take a sentence that is unique to your poem put quotes around it so you are searching for the entire phrase and search Google for it.
Google may display only one result and then display an option to, "repeat the search with the omitted results included." Google's reason being that why bother to show you 2 pages with the exact same content. (hopefully it is your webpage which they choose to display as the first result)
Here is an example from our Friend Forever Poems page, the introduction was written by one our editors who is really good. (Not just my opinion, as you will soon see)
I chose this sentence "How is it that people can talk so casually about a concept that we cannot even wrap our minds around" Now I Google it and there are 3 results
Great explanation of how it works, Don Whatever you type and post anywhere on the Internet (even in Chats) is recorded and can be recovered by various means like the browsers. Scrapers and spiders are programs which automatically search and collect everything posted since the beginning of the Internet. As someone said, "There is nothing private on the World Wide Web." Knowing this can be a great marketing advantage. You may be very surprised if you do as Don wisely suggests and put "Your Name" on the Google browser - and see what is displayed
