When the Pictish tribes saw that wall they laughed 'til their kilts did fall they pointed and giggled 'til their noses wiggled and they chased those Romans to Gaul.
Re-writing history is fun One gets the feeling that Hadrian's Wall was the "last straw" to those oppressed northern barbarians. Roman troopers died when the barbarians stormed the wall because Emperor Hadrian had built something which could not be defended. The barbarians continued their thrust, killing and looting across the land; a thrust which would go all the way onward to the eventual sack of Rome.
