Goodbye Mister Cocaine
I hear somebody knocking on my brain? I sure hope it's not you, Mister Cocaine. 'Cause Mr. Cocaine, you and I are thru, And so is the fake fun I had with you.
Tell me Mr. Cocaine, how could you dare, Even have the nerve to come around here? Because of you I lost my wife and kids, And I won't forgive you for what you did.
For you made me lie, cheat, swindle and steal, And you convinced me it was no big deal. To lie to friends, my sister and brother, And even steal from my own sweet mother.
You brought me to places I didn't want to be, Made me see things I didn't want to see. You made me do things I didn't want to do, Like leaving my kids to hang out with you.
You said you'd be there but you left me alone, And didn't answer when I called on the phone. You promised me riches but you left me poor, These are the reasons I don't want you no more.
So goodbye Mr. Cocaine and goodbye pain, Goodbye to the days of acting insane. Goodbye to the nights that we spent together, Goodbye Mr. Cocaine and goodbye forever.
For so many years I thought we were friends, But goodbye Mr. Cocaine for this is the end. What I saw in you? I'm really not sure, Goodbye Mr. Cocaine, I must close the door.

Poetry Granny, I sent this before I had read your message the person in your poem wasn't a family member. I wrote it back in 1990 and it remains one of my favorite addiction poems. It sort of allows an addict to see what addiction has done to them, place the blames a little, and realize they don't have to use or do the things that their drug of choice causes them to do to get high. What can be worse than stealing off your own mother or grandmother?

Ronald being in and out of rehabs I've heard many goodbye letters and poems and this is very expressive, I really like it. It's just insane to what lengths a addict will go to get what they want and feel like they need. Good job on the poem.

What a great poem. It really describes the seduction af addiction. Ending the love affair of addiction can be bitter sweet. This could really help those who are thinking of using hard drugs. Awesome!

the affair between u and Mister Cocaine is beautifully eastablished. one thing we can learn from this poem is that not only can u get addicted to cocaine, but also to love. And addiction to anything isn't good and writing a letter as a way to let go is a wonderful therapy. And that's why we write poems (one of the many reasons). Good one, as usual...

I have been looking for this poem for about three days..... A gentleman in a treatment center was asking me about it and I told him I would see if I could find it online. I was looking for Mr. C. Thanks for having it in here... You have made a recovering addict happy... On Dec. 3 2009 I will be taking 4 years. Thanks to all who have been there for me in my recovery.

Mustangkelly, you have made my day. Congratulations. Just remember a day at a time. I have relapsed after 5 years and 6 and a half years respectively. Thank god I didn't become a statistic. If you click back on the poem you can check out the video a band called The Last Riot and Franz Zeppelin recorded.
